Day 1-amazon jungle

We have breakfast at the hotel and get into a conversation with the table next to us. They went on the Inca trail last week and in 1985 before it was like even a thing. Bad ass.
We run for our taxi, thinking we are late. (Which is especially no Bueno because I lost the room key but since our taxi was the one who was late I found it).  We get to the airport and we find out that our flight is delayed from 10 to 1030. We go through a super easy check in process(there are 11 gates at the airport) and find three seats together and take turns leaving to go to the bathroom, get coffee etc. 1030 leaving time quickly turns into 11 and then noon. They finally call us up simply to give us food because they feel bad. Their first excuse for being late was weather, but when other Puerto maldonado flights were leaving we are told it's mechanical. We board the plane at 1 and leave closer to 2.  The flight is 45 minutes long.
We are whisked away to the office where most people have to consolidate their luggage and just bring the most needed items. We are prepared. We are also nearly 4 hours late then we thought and sre worried we are putting people out and missing out. We then bare a 45 minute super bumpy van ride to the river and a 2 hour or so jungle type cruise. Our activity of the evening is to play "a game of hide and seek" with little crocodiles called caimans.  He takes a spotlight and looks for their eyes and then the boat slows, we get really quiet and we try to take pictures. This winds up being the pattern during the rest of our stay.
We finally arrive at the refugio amazonas. This is not our final destination but is so for the evening. This lodge is beautiful with a gorgeous dining area and not at all the eco lodge we were expecting.
That comes tomorrow.
