I think that's all most people give Bergen, Norway. One day. Most people see it as a gateway to the fjords, which it also is, but it is a city in its own right.
It's situated around the harbor, with a fish market, souvenir shops and tons of places to eat, and not cheaply. It does keep going back and back, into the mountains and along the water.
We started out lateish since we got in so late the night before. We had some breakfast(a cinnamon cake thing which seems to be the thing here) and took a stroll around the harbor. We actually got to shop around a little which was nice. We didn't really do that in Copenhagen.
We then had lunch at the fish market, a reindeer hotdog and burger, which was so so good. We headed off to get our tickets for tomorrow where we take a boat, train and other forms of transport over two days to get to Oslo amongst pretty places and things.
We then explored a bit more and headed to mount floyen. There is a funicular that you can use to ride up the mountain or you can hike up. We/I thought it would be just a few paved switchbacks up. 1km in we find out we have 2 more kilometers to go. We wound up on a beautiful drizzly path that made me realize how hobbits, trolls and the like has made its way into Norway's culture. As you look around the forested area you can help bit imagine magical creatures darting about!
We took the funicular down, and even waited a ride so we could get front seats!! We/Joe grabbed a beer and then found dinner at the fish market. We decided to actually have fish this time; fish(and shrimp) and chips.
All in all, our food costed about $100 for the day for the two of us and we didn't have one sit down meal. This makes Bergen much more pricey so far then Copenhagen. Also we technically only did 23k steps today, which included a 3km uphill hike(nearly 1000 ft up), whereas twice this week on flat ground we hit 32k steps.
We ended the evening at an outdoor bar that had couches, blankets and a lovely view of the harbor.
