Let's go up things

This seemed to be the theme of the day, although I have no idea how!

James came to our hotel in a grab.  Grab is a Malaysian based Uber.  What's also cool is that you can still pay in cash, and do not need to load your credit card. This was our first experience with it and it is cheaper and easier!  (I have tmobile which allows 2g-4g service, just enough to hire a car or service where we are going when we arent at the hotel with wifi!)

We headed off to Penang hill.  It's about 4km uphill. You can walk it but we took a funicular(if you recall we thought we'd beat the prices and walk up a similar hill in Bergen, Norway, not realizing how far up it went.  We weren't doing that again!  Also it's hot as hell in comparison and was cheap.)  The line was so super long. Who knew Penang hill was going to be the thing today?

Up at the top, we looked down!  It's funny right, the second you get up something it's to look at where you came from?  We then took a hike around the hill!  We ended the excursion with some coconut water and a ride back down the funicular!

We walked to Laksa. Joe has been hearing and reading about Laksa since before we came out.  It's a noodle soup that features many many flavors; the dominant one being mackerel. I've read reviews(its also spicy so I didn't try it myself) and it states that these flavors do not make sense together and initially feel like an overload but somehow make sense in the end. This spot we walked to supposedly had the best Laksa in Penang. James and I ate a DELICIOUS roast pork and rice(i went back for seconds in pork, ordered 200 grams!).

We then walked to Kek Lok See, a Hindu temple that was built 200 or so years ago. It's crowning glory is its large statue on the 4th floor, a feminine deity!  We took the air conditioned elevator/buggy combo to get through all the levels. It was beautiful!  But it closed down early.

We headed back to our respective hotels and we dipped in the amazing pool once more.  We met up James later on outside of the Georgetown Festival's opening night. We ate at another food court, eating chinese food and smoothies. We then headed to the festival. We sae digitical mapping, performances on stilts and a fire show. Yet, by 11pm, we were beat. We bid farewell to James, thanking him for coming all the way out here for us, and made it back to our hotel, barely making it to the bed before our eyes were closed.
